Lynnhaven School is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and affirms its Statement of Principles of Good Practice, a code of ethical conduct that articulates the responsibilities of college members, secondary school members, and independent counselors in the admission process.
Although college counseling primarily focuses on students and their families during their 3rd and 4th years, questions that students or their parents may have throughout their time at Lynnhaven are welcome.
Pre-Seminar & Seminar
During their 3rd year, students will take a Year 4 prep-course as part of their Friday electives. This course focuses on ACT prep, college exploration, and an introduction to the Common App. Seminar is a semester course for 4th-year students. It focuses on ACT prep, college applications, scholarship applications, and independent living to prepare students for their journey after Lynnhaven.
College Visits
Lynnhaven organizes college visits each year. Students will travel to visit at least six colleges or universities during their 3rd and 4th year. In the past, students have visited: High Point University, Virginia Tech, William & Mary, Marymount University, and MORE! In addition, admission representatives from various colleges and universities will visit the Lynnhaven campus to meet with students. Schools that have come to Lynnhaven include Elon University, Randolph College, Longwood University, and MORE!
Individual College Counseling & Third Advisor Services
Lynnhaven School recommends Heron Education for those students looking for more individualized college counseling services as well as Third Advisor services, during a student's first year of college.
College Entrance Testing
Lynnhaven offers the ACT during the Fall each year. Students who wish to take the SAT may do so by finding a test center HERE.
College Financial Aid
