Henrico, VA - Lynnhaven School has been honored with the Tree Campus K-12 recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation for its dedication to tree-focused education during the 2023/2024 school year. The Tree Campus K-12 program encourages schools to create meaningful opportunities for students to engage with trees, fostering a lifelong respect for the environment. Lynnhaven School met four key goals to earn this recognition, including maintaining a dedicated Tree Campus team, implementing an educational plan connecting students to the global benefits of trees, offering hands-on experiences, and celebrating Arbor Day. “We want to inspire young people to develop a lifelong respect for trees and understand the many benefits green spaces bring to communities,” said Dan Lambe, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Lynnhaven is playing a key role in the effort to usher in a new generation of environmental stewards.” The Arbor Day Foundation, the largest nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees, also recognizes efforts through programs like Tree City USA and Tree Campus Higher Education. "We're proud to play a role in nurturing the next generation of environmental stewards," said Dr. Hitchcock, Head of School at Lynnhaven School. "This recognition reflects our commitment to environmental education and the importance of green spaces in our community." Henrico, VA - August 2, 2024 - The Lynnhaven School is thrilled to announce that Evan Liddiard, Humanities teacher, has been selected as one of four Ann & Ryland Brown teacher fellows for the Library of Virginia. This prestigious fellowship recognizes exceptional educators and provides them with the opportunity to conduct archival research and develop curriculum materials. Mr. Liddiard's research will focus on the complex identities and interactions among white, black, and indigenous Virginians, particularly in the early 20th century. His work aims to uncover and highlight the stories and individuals that have often been overlooked and untold in traditional narratives. "We are incredibly proud of Mr. Liddiard's achievement and the significant contributions he will make through this fellowship," said Dr. Casey Hitchcock, Head of School at The Lynnhaven School. "His research is poised to enrich our humanities classes at Lynnhaven and provide valuable insights for teachers across the state." Mr. Liddiard presented his research at the 15th annual Ann & Ryland Brown Teacher Institute in Richmond, VA, on August 1 & 2. He is confident that his findings will not only enhance the educational experience for students at The Lynnhaven School but also benefit educators statewide. By shedding light on lesser-known stories and perspectives, his work will help create a more inclusive and comprehensive understanding of Virginia's history.
