COLLEGE COUNSELING
Lynnhaven School is here to support students on their journey toward higher education. We believe in fostering an environment where students are encouraged to explore their interests, think critically, and take ownership of their learning journey. Our college counseling program is designed to guide students through the college search and application process, helping them find the best fit for their unique strengths, aspirations, and goals.
We are committed to providing a program that ensures students and parents are informed and supported throughout high school. Recognizing the importance of early preparation and continuous guidance, we offer a series of grade-level meetings, beginning in September, that address the specific needs of each stage of the college planning process.
Our approach to college counseling is student-centered and rooted in our commitment to personalized support, integrity, and individual growth. Throughout a student’s Lynnhaven experience, we work collaboratively to explore college options, understand application processes, and prepare for a successful transition to college life. By prioritizing each student’s strengths and aspirations, we ensure that their next steps reflect both their academic achievements and personal growth.
Navigating the College Search Process
We believe the college search should be an exciting process, an opportunity to think about who you are and to make decisions about your future. Lynnhaven works individually with each student and family to understand a process that can seem mysterious and stressful, develop a list of appropriate options, and advise on all phases of the admissions process. Although college counseling primarily focuses on students and their families during their junior and senior year, questions that students or their parents may have throughout their time at Lynnhaven are welcome.
Seminar
Each year, students take a seminar course that is designed to help support them in their future. These courses focuses on ACT & SAT prep, college and career exploration, personal finance, and an introduction to the Common App. Senior Seminar is a semester course for seniors. It focuses on ACT & SAT prep, college applications, scholarship applications, and independent living to prepare students for their journey after Lynnhaven.
College Visits
Lynnhaven organizes college visits each year. Students will travel to visit a variety of colleges and universities during their junior and senior year. In the past, students have visited: University of Virginia, University of Lynchburg, Virginia Tech University, Virginia State University, William and Mary, Marymount University and MORE! In addition, admission representatives from various colleges and universities will visit the Lynnhaven campus to meet with students.
