STUDENT LIFE
Student Life
Student life is made of two important pieces: work and play. The work of the student at any school is largely academic, but at Lynnhaven, it is also service-oriented and practical. Students are expected to complete volunteer hours, work around the schoolhouse, and serve in action-oriented groups like Student Ambassadors, Student Government, & Grounds Committee.
The school organizes some evening and weekend activities, but most are student driven. Here are some examples of activities that happen around campus
- School dances such as Fall Semi Formal and Spring Formal
- Weekend events to Escape Rooms or area hikes
- Popcorn Fridays
- Chess challenges in the Lynx Lounge
We also have a number of student-led groups on campus. These are always changing, but here are some examples:
- Student Wellness Committee
- Naturalist Club
- Model UN
- D&D

House System
The House System at Lynnhaven School is a cornerstone of student life, designed to foster meaningful relationships, celebrate school traditions, and support holistic growth. Each year begins with the excitement of Tap Day, a spirited event where students are randomly assigned to one of the school’s Houses—each with its own identity, culture, and legacy. This moment marks the beginning of their House journey, culminating in a formal induction during the first week of school, where new members are welcomed with enthusiasm and ceremony.
From the very start, students are immersed in a vibrant and inclusive community that extends beyond the classroom. Within their Houses, they engage in weekly discussions, collaborative service projects, and spirited competitions that build unity, encourage mentorship, and promote leadership across grade levels. These relationships deepen through shared challenges and victories, helping students discover their strengths and recognize the value of teamwork and trust.
Throughout the school year, Houses compete not only for the coveted House Cup, but more importantly, to cultivate friendships, fuel school spirit, and create unforgettable memories. Traditions like Spirit Week, costume contests, and campus-wide events are all infused with House pride, offering students opportunities to take part in experiences that will stay with them long after graduation. The House System ensures that every student is connected to a group that celebrates who they are, pushes them to grow, and supports them through every step of their journey.
At the heart of each House is a faculty advisor who plays a vital role in guiding students both academically and personally. By offering consistent, personalized advising, the House System allows for early interventions, meaningful mentorship, and an environment where students are seen, known, and supported. Through this unique blend of tradition, competition, community, and care, the Lynnhaven House System builds a strong foundation for student success and belonging.
